I want to get a phd in psychology, and I don’t know what type of ollege I should go to. What would be the reasons to go to a university versus a community college? Grades and dropping out are not a problem, and if there are no god reasons, I would prefer a community college over a university because of money. Thanks for your help!

Well for starters, unless I’m really out of the loop, you can’t get a bachelor’s degree at a cc. You can get your general ed’s out of the way and there’s the option of an AA degree, but that’s not going to get you anywhere in psychology. Most university’s have a psychology department so where you go depends more on what you would like your professors to specialize in really more so than you. Check out the prof page of the university you are interested in and see if their research is along the lines of something you’re interested in. Psychology is a pretty common degree these days and not a difficult one to get in terms of a challenge. But to make it in the world of psychology you are looking at having to do at least a master’s and most often a phd or psyD which you also might want to research. My degree in psychology was an afterthought after my first program fell apart my sophomore year, not something I would recommend going through. My advice is to go to a community college, get your Generals out of the way and explore what direction in psychology (if psychology) you want to go. Even after a degree in psych and over ten years of working in a field where I used it fairly often, I’m going for a higher degree in a completely unrelated field. Expect to dump alot of money and time into getting anywhere in the psych world. Try sociology, you might get to where your’e going faster.
