What are some ways for families that do not have ties to US citizens to enter the US legally and obtain Green Card status? For example, is it possible for a family of two parents and one child to enter if one or more parents have work visas? Or do they need something else? Can they eventually stay and obtain Green Cards? I’m interested in legal paths.

okay,
first question, ways for them to enter without having ties to other U.S. citizen,
~work visas’s (i think there’s a another name for them). Businesses can sponsor you to stay in the U.S.
honestly that’s the only LEGAL way i know of.
and no, unless you’re a U.S. citizen (or in some cases i’ve heard of, atleast a greencard holder), you can’t immigrate family members. as i stated previously if your work business sponsors you to stay in the U.S. and you get your citizenship, then you may sponsor for you’re family to come. You spouse and your children (if under 18 at time of process) will be able to come at the same time, after going through the process.
All of the information above is based on MY experience, i don’t know HOW precisely it is, but it is what i know.
I hope this helps! =]
In theory yes.
In the example you have stated: If a family of two parents and one child.
If one of those *parents* is eligible and manages to obtain either a H or J classification visa then it is possible for the spouse and child to have derivative H-4/J-2 visas.
You should note that none of these are immigrant (green card) visas, although in *theory* it would be possible for you to obtain green cards if the principle visa holder’s (H-1/2/J-1) employers sponsor them for one be filing a petition Form I-140.
