Hey everybody. Right now I’m a (female) sophomore in high school in Omaha, NE. I’m trying to figure out where I want to go to college. I’m planning on working in the music industry when I graduate. I know of a Christian college called Evangel in Springfield, MO that offers a “Bachelor of Science in Music Industry”. I want a program like that, but I also think it would be good if there was a record label near my college so I could possibly work as a college representative. Do any of you know where there are any Christian colleges with a good music industry program, AND a record label nearby so I could possibly work there while I’m in college?

Learning music theory is important for all dedicated musicians even if they could able to play instruments or sing even without knowing how to read music sheets. It may seem so, being talented could be an excused. Even if you are an excellent musician or if you can play instruments well or if you join a band, chances are greater that you can be able to express so much more of your music even better if you know how to apply the basics of music theory.

If you are still unsure of whether you’ll take up music theory, there is this analogy that could help you make up your mind. It is been said that writers are definitely not born. Poetry and prose may only be written by a few people who can translate their ideas into writing. However, learning the complexities of their language’s grammar will make language itself an additional tool that the writer may make use of to express his or her ideas in more effective ways. Writers must be versed in wordplay therefore they are required to know language and grammar. The art of writing requires the substantial learning and discipline to appreciate language and grammar. However, it is still true that not everybody who knows the ins and outs of a language’s grammar may be a writer.

One example is a person who likes to cook. Some people can naturally understand how food elements can work and how a combination of flavors can create a wonderful dish. A person can sometimes naturally understand how particular ingredients work and how taste and flavor can be a wonderful dish. A wonderful dish created to make up a combination of tastes can be understood by an individual who naturally knows how ingredients work. Understanding flavors is a wonderful gift that could be developed if one can actually go to a cooking school to learn the fundamentals of cooking. It offers a more structured approach to learning and would make sense of the things that goes out naturally for you.

In short, in order to be able to bend rules, one would have to recognize the rules first. Knowing that you can manage to play guitar with the use of the ear alone is great. Steve Krenz show-boats a bit with this in his course, Learn and Master Guitar. Even without glancing at a music sheet, you can be a great guitar player by employing such talent to recognize notes and put them together. But you should be familiar with the music theory if you truly want to master guitar playing. Because you speak the same language and are educated with the “grammar” or technicalities of music, it is simplier to share your music with other musicians especially if you write your own music. Its given that even if you know the notes of music as well as the back of your hand, nothing can defeat real talent.

However, even if having the discipline that it takes to truly master music theory can’t make an artist out of a musician, it can at least teach you how to make good music. In due time, good music can could be inspired music. With hard work and consistency, it will pay off in the end.

There are music schools for you should you hope to learn and master guitar techniques or even just be able to understand easy music theory. Online, there is a lot of information that is already accessible because of the beauty of technological wonders. Simply, all you have to do is search and it’s there.
