How To Choose Us Colleges Based On Us College Admission Statistics?

There are so much statistics avaialble on net for US College admissions that it confuses me. How to narrow down the search to select only a few colleges so that I can apply to them?

Agree with Kyle on most points, however differ in some..
To zero down your list of target colleges to only a few (7-8 as Kyle said), just find out first what are you yourself: How brilliant are you compared to others (just take the Paterson’s free SAT test – most US colleges accepts SAT scores) and also find out how much fund you can generate yourself (your own, parents etc..).
Based on your finding, go for searching the colleges. I just came across two beautiful blog post on the net. Just refer them:http://careerquips.blogspot.com/2008/10/…http://careerquips.blogspot.com/2008/10/…
Both of these tells you how to make your selections easier. Specially the first post shows you college selections step-by-step.

For starters, don’t select just a few. Choose several, like 7 or 8. For a couple of reasons.
Choose a couple of “dream” schools, the ones you think you’d have the hardest time getting into (Example:Duke). Choose a few that are a step below, that accept a higher percent of applicants.(Example:U of Michigan) Lastly choose a couple of quality schools that have even higher acceptance rates.(Example:U of Pittsburgh). Why limit yourself based upon statistics? Your application might fall into the right pile at a school you’d never risk applying to otherwise. Also, financial aid packages vary widely. A mid-range priced school could wind up providing more aid/scholarships than the least expensive one. All in all, apply to as many as you can afford.
